Heavy gustav railway gun

The steel giant Krupp A.G. made only two, and neither worked well. Schwerer Gustav (English: Heavy Gustaf) was a German 80-centimetre (31.5 in) railway gun. It was developed in the late 1930s by Krupp in Rügenwalde as siege artillery for the explicit purpose of destroying the main forts of the French Maginot Line, the strongest fortifications in existence at the time. Schwerer Gustav was an absolute monster of a weapon. Because it was so large and heavy the gun couldn’t be moved as a whole. Instead, the gun was broken down into several pieces and transported in 25 freight cars to the place of deployment, where it was assembled in place—a task that required 250 men nearly three days to complete. The Germans poured immense resources into creating two massive railway artillery guns, Heavy Gustav and Dora.
